How To Get Started Right – TIPS

S = Success

Success Is What We Are All Striving For! Each person has their own definition of what success is.  For some it is to buy a new vehicle, some want to take a long vacation and others want to buy a bigger / smaller house.  These are all things that someone “Outside Looking In” sees.  Each person picks their own goals.

How Do We Know When We Have Arrived?

S = Systems

We learn systems as small children.  Our parents develop what was commonly called “A Routine” for us.  It was a way to schedule / manage our daily activities.

When to get up / when to eat / when to bathe / when to play outside / when to clean up our room / when to go to school / when to come home / when to go to bed.  These are all part of a system we just didn’t know it at the time.

Once we started school this system grew and the routine changed / added more activities and became more complex.  One day school ends; society and our parents decide the time as a child is over.

As an adult, when working for someone else – some aspects are still the same as when we were children The Structure is determined by someone else and we are following Their System

As Business Owners – How We Run Our Business And What It Looks Like Starts Out As A “Blank Sheet".  Every business starts as an IDEA, A Dream, A Wish and A Desire! The government gives a general outline in regards to business structure for tax purposes.  Beyond that – It’s Up To Us – The Business Owner to develop your own Business Plans

We decide what type of business / Where it is located / Will we have employees (how many) / What will we charge for our good and services.  How do we get paid / When do we get paid.  Starting a business is all about making decisions.

S  = Steps To Turn Success Into Security

First Step:  Peace of Mind

Understand what tasks are important for you always be the person doing them for you to have personal Peace of Mind.   Routines are important – what is yours?

Second Step:  Understanding “Who You Are” and “Your Personality Type”

We are each a product of where we have been (our history) who we have met and what our life experiences are.  Understand your strengths and weaknesses.

Do you spend all your time fixing weaknesses or enhancing your strengths?

Third Step:  Develop a Business Plan – Your Road map for your success. And along the way develop a good understanding about what Ten Minutes Is Costing Your Company

In the beginning this may only be a single page / outline (like a school paper)

Incorporate some of the principles of the 80/20 Rule and understand the differnces between M.A.P. and P.A.M.

This is a “Work-In-Process” always ongoing.  Process Improvements are tiny changes made on a regular basis.

Childern do not master walking perfectly the first time they tried / riding a bike / learning to drive a car.  (Success for us was two clutches later, a dented mailbox, a fence in need of repair and that little issue with the curb)

Fourth Step:  Implement Your Plan

The Roadmap on how we run our business is up to Us – The Business Owner.

The most detailed business plan means nothing if you are waiting for perfection.  The Timing will never be perfect.  Get Started -  Because The Conditions Will Never Be Perfect!

Sports are good examples – at some set point The Practice Is Over and The Real Game Begins.  It is impossible for the players to win by staying in the locker room / in dugout / off the field / just being anywhere else but in the game.   There is a time for the players to put into action what the coach has taught them and they have practiced to do.  Games would be no fun to watch if the team “sorta played”

Fifth Step:

Large companies have a “Board Of Directors to meet regularly / brainstorm and bring in fresh ideas to the management side of the company. As The Owner / As The Coach - Success is having others be a part of your team and you can develop your “Board Of Advisors".

Employees are a great asset to every company; each person in your company has a special skill set that they excel at (some employees think and act management / others work wonderfully as a staff person) – each has their individual place in any business.  We would like to be a part of your team.

What Should You Be Monitoring?

S = Security

Everyone has daily challenges, little / big things that need to be handled.  The phrase “The System Is The Solution” means that whatever the challenge or latest crisis  – It’s Not New or if it is new – It’s Manageable!

Hair-On-Fire management is not fun.  Neither is coming back from a “mini-vacation and finding everything is in crisis mode. It defeats the purpose of the vacation.   You are unable to fully relax is you are thinking about what is happening at “The Office” or “In The Field” while you are gone!.

Security comes from setting up the Structure and Systems (Processes or Steps) in place that the business is running smoothly.  Micro-managing should be optional and by choice not necessity.

Why Is This Important – because with Security – there will be Peace of Mind.  Having Peace of Mind will create the environment to grow, which will create The Funds required and The Time needed to be able to do the things that you want to do for Your Family, Your Community, and Yourself.
